I was good, really.... [Jul. 3rd, 2008|01:49 pm]

omahastar
Today was payday, for which I say yay. I did get some things I didn't absolutely *need*, but I did want them. And coupons helped. Ok, only bought two things, but they're still good.

1 - Predator: Flesh and Blood, by the writing god Michael Jan Friedman and the Minor Deity Robert Greenberger. I know nothing about this book. I don't need to. The authors' names on the cover say everything I need to know about this book.

2 - The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor novelization by Max Allan Collins. I don't think I've ready anything Mr. Collins has published, but this was sitting on the shelf and it's like two more months before the movie comes out. Maybe this will tide me over til then.

Now I just have to remember how to read dead tree books again. lol

Ok, now I'm going to play an old game. I'm turning to page 71 of each book, and type the first full paragraph of each.

From Predator -

She was obviously in better shape than he was -- better shape than anyone, for that matter. One only had to look to know that. And she obviously and no intent of slowing down to let him catch up.

Hmm ... Ok, says nothing, but maybe it does. I'm guessing it's about a human female and one of the Preds. Could be wrong. I'll find out when I read the rest.

From Mummy -

He raised his cocktail glass as if toasting his wealthy patrons. "To Imhotep," he said to no one in particular. "May the bugger actually stay dead, this time . . ."

It's gotta be Jonathan. The only characters we're going to see are Rick, Evelyn, Jonathan, and Alex. Eve would never say "bugger" about Imhotep, and the other guys speak Americanized English, so it's gotta be him. But why is he giving Immie a toast? Hmm ...

There are so many attempts by people on You Tube to do various classic Who trailers in the style of the new series, but this is a cool one.  It's for the first season of the classic season done in a theatrical style.

October 2008 – Wolfsbane And Mistletoe, Ace. The second anthology edited by Charlaine and Toni L.P. Kelner. These stories deal with werewolves and Christmas.

Two anthologies in October - the same month Trial comes out - and one for Christmas. Sweet.
Gotta remember in late August, early September, to check and see if they'll do another mass signing for this anthology like they did last year. I was able to get MBR signed by 4 of the contributors that way.

If I don't manage to pop in whilst on vacation (yes, I'm weird: I'm bringing the laptop), see you all Monday evening. We're jetting out of here at about 7:30 tomorrow morning.

Also, say a little prayer or shoot a good vice, whatever, that my left rear tire isn't leaking but was just low. If it's still 35 PSI in the morning, we'll go, no problem and have it checked in MD. If not, I'll be mighty frustrated and taking it in for an emergency patch down the road, putting us at best an hour behind.

So, good thoughts, everyone, and see you on the other side. :^)

So here's one of the pictures from yesterday's outing with the graduating class.  I don't know why Eddie looks so upset in the picture.  He was having a great time.  There's another picture but he looks even more upset.  I'm waiting for one other teacher to send along some pictures he took.

In other news, Eddie seems to have a new virus.  He's getting headaches, fever, and a sore throat.  I asked him if he kissed any of the girls, but he insists he didn't.

Well, Ike has been buried. It still doesn't seem real. Next time I go to my sister's house, I'll still expect to see him wagging his tail and hear him barking like a maniac. :( Sam is really sad. They all are- and the other dogs and cat are pretty upset, too.

[mood | rushed]

Today: VERY LONG. Things done: lots.

MGM rehearsal 2/3:

"That was more Hollywood, Birmingham than Hollywood, California, really."

"That had everything! ...except for accuracy."

"Let peacocks and monkeys in purple adornments show her the way to my ah-AH! ah-AH!"

from a friend: "Well, I thought they were singing 'while I tell her the moron is mating'!"

"I hope you remember from yesterday - yesterday? Well, days without choir rehearsals are just IRRELEVANT!"

"Right attitude, wrong notes."

MGM rehearsal 3/3:

*conductor beats time, while tenors and basses sing at a completely different speed*
"I do in fact like how you're all exactly together - that takes quite a bit. But (*pathetically*) do let me join in!"

"We're not singing in American accents but we must have American faces!"

(to pianist:) "OK, now play the 2nd alto part with that, and with the other hand make me a cup of tea!"
*pianist dutifully plays the parts, and produces a coffee cup from somewhere at the same time, to much applause*

*choir attempts to sing a unison section*
"No, that really doesn't work as a round."

(giving markings:) "I dreamed of gay amours BREATH! Have we stopped sniggering about this yet?" *choir sniggers some more*

I had to cancel my audition (which would have been on Tuesday evening) because of the cold from which I am still not entirely recovered. The next free spot is apparently now in September, which means I have it hanging over me for that much longer *bites nails*. On the other hand, I really don't want to audition in my current stage of middle-register muzziness and general lack of tone... Sinuses are such useful things for singing.

I will be very glad when I make it to Saturday, although the number of things I need to get done before lunchtime is really quite intimidating. I have been using my lunches to run vital errands, and still have dozens of things left undone! *flails a little*

I think it must be hereditary.

Also, a nod to [info]sovietkiki - the classic SF radio serial Earthsearch is playing on BBC7 at the moment, which I've been listening to on the BBC's web radio player (they're up to episode three), though of course that's Britishers only. You could be sneaky and listen via a web proxy, of course, but you didn't hear that from me. Ahem. Anyway, my first time hearing it, and it's pretty entertaining so far. I can definitely see why she raved about it to me.

Andy Murray's out of Wimbledon, not surprising as Nadal is really very very good, but didn't he do well against Gasquet? That's one to remember (even if I didn't see it as it happened).

Hmm, had some more photos in the Island Eye paper, from the first concert two weeks ago, but haven't actually seen a copy yet. Still haven't finished sorting through those at work yet, and probably won't this week - I've got some time off in lieu, four days for the four concerts, so I used a day today and watched some tennis and other things.

After seeing some videos on YouTube of a nuBSG mod for the space tactical battle RTS game Homeworld 2, I caved and bought it. Had a copy, but it got lost along the way. Being able to make one's own epic BSG space battles is somewhat shiny if you're of that persuasion (and believe me, I really am)

Lastly, I felt bad today, possibly worse than I have in a few weeks. Love again, of course. It isn't wonderful any more, it's just... sad. Also funny, absurd, ironic, and deeply regrettable. The situation hangs over me at all times; it not infrequently feels like I'm just not really here at all. All I can do is trust that time will do its dirty work eventually, and until then try not to let my orbit get too far out. Sometimes, you know, I don't so much like being human.

Did you know... [Jul. 2nd, 2008|11:04 pm]

ulva
[mood | depressed]

... that Nelson Mandela no longer is labled a terrorist by the US government, and that ANC also is taken off the list of terrorist organisations? Well, the other day that was decided on recommendation from Condoleezza Rice. So now you know. South Africa's former president and Nobel peace prize winner is no longer a terrorist. Fabulous news. I will refrain from saying anything more because it wouldn't be anything but sarcastic.

Today summer was back. The best kind of summer, warm but not Mediterranean hot with a breeze. Normally I would really enjoy it. What did I do? I stayed in-doors all afternoon. I have difficulties with sun and warmth big time.

I did manage to go down-town and find something to wear though. Lo and behold! I found two dresses which I can wear when it's warm and which also can be used when there's a bit more festive things happening.

Next weekend is Ronja's confirmation so I desperately needed to find something. It's so great to wear something that isn't too small but doesn't make me look like I'm wrapped in sheets of burlap like a pregnant hippo.

In that case this pregnancy doesn't come at the right time. My weight gain isn't under control and I will naturally only get bigger from now on. Last time I gained about 6-8 kg/13-17 lb too much (which I quite quickly lost again - within three months it was all gone) but if I gain that on top of the weight you do gain because of the baby and the package that comes with it, I'll pass the 80 kg/176 lb mark with a large margin.

That's about 30 kg/66 lb more than my starting weight, before I uncontrollably started to gain weight. Can I say how much I hate this? How heavy it's becoming? How difficult it is to move the way I used to? Just going to the toilet is a different story when you've gained the weight I have.

I really really pray that now when my levels are coming under control (finally) this gain will stop. With the nausea and fatigue out of the way (soon, soon) I'll be able to actually do something as well which will help, but getting that metabolism functioning properly and under control is key to getting anywhere with my weight.

Anders will of course not agree that it's getting too much but I feel it. It's heavy on my knees, hard to do certain things because I'm myself is in the way and uncomfortable in several other ways. And I have started to notice the looks.

I have always known that overweight people are seen as lazy and downright disgusting by some people. Some have ate themselves to a problem, others have also genetic disposition for it but I have neither. I have eaten like a sparrow and gained 24kg/53 lb so far just because my metabolism checked out on long term holiday.

It hurts when I look people in their eyes and I can see that they think that I'm just a fat lazy nobody. This is not me. The person I look at in the mirror is not the person I've been all my life. It's a new person, it's my disease manifesting itself.

This is a serious matter for me and it's not helped by people patting me on the back saying that I was too skinny before. No I wasn't. I was perfectly normal because that was me. The me that I have been all my grown up life (and I was even thinner as a child). It wasn't because I was dieting or eating too little. I ate more back then than I do now. It was me.

The person I'm looking at in the mirror now is not me at all. I have been thinking sometimes that if it had manifested itself in some other way, like in serious skin change or deformity of joints or something people would take it more serious than they do now because they'd actually see that it's not normal.

I'm just so incredibly unhappy with everything right now. I'm really getting depressed. I'm just so tired of my whole situation. In theory things will get better. That's what I have been telling myself the past... 6+ months since I got the diagnose. But it's not happening. Fuck this year.
